Owner and Group Leader
Melanie Hajjar is a 2000 graduate of UMass Amherst with a BA Degree in Art/Science Elementary Education. She always knew she wanted to teach outside of the traditional classroom and create hands-on educational programs for children. Since moving to Nantucket in 2002, Melanie has focused on doing just that. Her first business, Cosmic Creations, teaches scientific concepts through exciting art projects in after school classes and birthday parties.
Melanie says, “I love being around children and seeing the wonder of the world through their eyes. I feel it’s important to give the children opportunity to explore and experiment, even if it’s messy!”
After graduating in 2006 with a BA in early childhood education, Emily left Ohio and moved to Nantucket to teach at The Nantucket New School. There she became inspired by Nantucket’s environment, met Melanie, joined Seafari Girls and has been part of the team ever since!
“Each summer brings new faces and learning experiences. It is such a blessing to be a part of the magic each summer!” Emily says. For her, Seafari Girls is a dream job. Having attended an all girl’s school for many years, Emily believes it’s important for young women to empower each other, learn to work with on another, and most importantly, accept the differences that make us unique. In her eyes, Seafari Girls teaches these things and offers a new, exciting adventure every day.
